Andrew Sullivan’s Favorite Jew Disparager Stumps for Well Know Anti-Semite

Adam Holland brings to my attention the recent review on the back of Gilad Atzmon's new book by none other than John Mearsheimer, author of the terrible "Israel Lobby", a man Andrew Sullivan believes was the "victim" of a "vicious smear campaign."
Mearsheimer's blurb reads:

‘Gilad Atzmon has written a fascinating and provocative book on Jewish identity in the modern world. He shows how assimilation and liberalism are making it incredibly difficult for Jews in the Diaspora to maintain a powerful sense of their ‘Jewishness.’ Panicked Jewish leaders, he argues, have turned to Zionism (blind loyalty to Israel) and scaremongering (the threat of another Holocaust) to keep the tribe united and distinct from the surrounding goyim. As Atzmon’s own case demonstrates, this strategy is not working and is causing many Jews great anguish. The Wandering Who? Should be widely read by Jews and non-Jews alike.’

Unbelievable, really. Mearsheimer’s “The Tragedy of GreatPower Politics” was a fascinating read, and there is no doubt the man deserves respect in the field of IR theory, but the critics of the book he produced with Stephen Walt were justified in their condemnations, and John’s support for an overt Anti-Semite surely doesn’t help his case.

Update:
Jeffery Goldberg has more on this.
